THE JOB:
Upgrade & modernisation of three escalators
Three escalators at Bishopsgate now not only work better but look nicer too.
The brief was to upgrade and modernise the escalators and control panels to current standards, but we were also asked to maintain the look of the building.
The refurbishment included inspections to all working parts, safety checks, repair or replacement of parts and an overhaul of the entire machine to increase efficiency and reduce the chances of breakdown.
The escalators bear a heavy footfall from people who work in the building but also shoppers to the retail area as well. Good, efficient escalators are essential in such a busy place.
The brass deckings and balustrades were to be removed and treated, giving them back their original shiny, scratch-free appearance.
The site hoardings were designed to blend in with their surroundings to keep the aesthetics of the building intact whilst works took place inside. We used a specialist company that was able to print a near-identical copy of the wooden panelling which was then overlaid on our hoardings.
This is a busy building, so overnight work was essential to avoid disruption to staff and visitors using these three heavily used escalators.
